Small possession
Two ounces or less is decriminalized—not unrestricted legalization.
Jamaica ganja travel • Hotel rules • Responsible use
What visitors need to know about hotel rooms, balconies and designated smoking areas.
The short answer
Do not assume you can smoke weed inside your hotel room.
Most properties treat guest rooms as non-smoking. Ask exactly where cannabis smoking is permitted; a designated outdoor area is usually the safest option.
Two sets of rules apply
Two ounces or less is decriminalized—not unrestricted legalization.
Smoking ganja in a public place or near one remains prohibited.
Hotels may prohibit cannabis, tobacco and vaping in rooms and shared areas.
What about a private balcony or patio?
Smoke can drift into adjoining rooms, and many resorts extend their no-smoking rules to balconies and patios.
Some properties allow smoking only on selected balconies or in a particular outdoor space. Obtain a clear answer before using it.

The best option
Do not light up in a lobby, hallway, restaurant, bar, spa, pool deck, beach area or another shared space unless the property clearly approves it.
Ask hotel staff to identify the exact designated location rather than choosing a secluded corner yourself.
Once you arrive

Cannabis-friendly does not always mean room-friendly
A cannabis-friendly property may offer a designated garden, smoking lounge, herb-house access, tour connections or other experiences while keeping bedrooms smoke-free.
Smaller hotels and private villas may provide clearer outdoor options than a large smoke-free resort—but ask before booking.
Quick answers for hotel guests
The immediate issue is often hotel enforcement, but public or shared-space smoking can create legal trouble.
Do not assume so. Many properties include vaping in their no-smoking policy.
They avoid smoke but remain cannabis products. Start cautiously and store them securely.
Do not assume a beach is approved. Use only the location the property identifies.
