What visitors need to know before they buy, consume or travel.
Yes—but there are rules. Tourists can purchase ganja through Jamaica’s regulated medical or therapeutic cannabis system. Licensed dispensaries are commonly called herb houses.
Jamaica has not created an unrestricted recreational cannabis market.Where can tourists legally buy?
The safest and most reliable option is a retailer licensed by Jamaica’s Cannabis Licensing Authority. Regulated products offer greater confidence about source, strength and quality.
Knowledgeable staff can explain available strains, THC and CBD levels, dosage and product formats. Selection varies by location.

What licensed herb houses may sell

What should visitors bring?
Bring valid government-issued photo identification. Because herb houses operate within the medical and therapeutic system, a medical card, recommendation or local practitioner consultation may also be required.
Procedures vary. Contact the herb house before visiting, especially if you do not already have medical documentation.
Is recreational ganja legal?
Small possession is generally a ticketable, non-arrestable infraction outside an applicable exemption.
A fixed-penalty notice may apply to possession of a small amount.
Possession remains a criminal offence and may lead to arrest and prosecution.
What about street sellers?
Visitors may be approached on beaches, near attractions or outside resorts. Those transactions are not part of Jamaica’s regulated retail system, and quality or potency may be inconsistent.
For traditional ganja culture, choose a carefully selected farm or Rastafari experience instead of relying on a random seller.

Where can tourists consume?
Public smoking is prohibited, including on public beaches, sidewalks, at bus stops, in restaurants and in other places accessible to the public.
Some licensed facilities and ganja-friendly accommodations permit use in designated private areas. Never assume an entire property is smoke-friendly.
Before you fly or cruise
Do not carry flower, edibles, vape cartridges, oils or other THC products through an airport, onto a cruise ship or across an international border—even if cannabis is legal where you live.
Buy after arriving. Leave every unused product behind. For a better first experience
